Overview of Quality Assurance Program

Building departments and design professionals are entitled to have confidence in the installation of lightweight insulating concrete roof deck systems. Any product or system that is manufactured in the field is subject to variations due to workmanship, weather, jobsite conditions and interpretations of the construction documents.
We in the lightweight insulating concrete business are fortunate to have satisfactory ranges in the installation of our product. Often, the contractor, architect or building inspector is unaware or familiar with the standards of an “acceptable” deck.

The purpose of the FRDA Quality Assurance Program is to respond quickly and professionally to inquiries questioning the installation of a lightweight insulating concrete roofdeck and to ensure that the roof deck system is installed per manufacturers specifications.

Procedures

You may report an issue via this website by clicking here. Within 24 hours of the receipt of any report the appropriate manufacturer will contact you to discuss the details of your issue. In many cases, the issue can be resolved at this point. Should an immediate remedy not be available, an official FRDA quality assurance review will commence and a plan of action will be developed that is agreeable to all involved parties. This formal FRDA Review will occur in phases. Throughout the review, the FRDA president will be kept informed and copied on all correspondence.

Phase I - Initial Response

1.  Your inquiry will be forwarded to the FRDA President and Executive Director who will request copies of specifications,      approved submittals and contract pages (relative to materials and installation).
2.  The applicator and manufacturer identified in the request will be notified of the inquiry.
3.  An immediate jobsite visit/visual inspection will be arranged FRDA to assess the situation.

Phase II - Assessment

1.  After a visual inspection, the roof deck shall be assessed to determine if corrective actions are necessary.
2.  If needed, pull tests shall be performed in the presence of an FRDA member and the applicator.
3.  Should corrective measures be required, the FRDA member will list suggested corrections in a written report.

Phase III - Resolution

1.  Should the applicator object to the corrective steps suggested, the applicator should appeal to the President and Board of      Directors of the FRDA. If the Board agrees with the steps suggested the manufacturer will be asked to intervene with it's      approved applicator.
2.  Should a solution not be agreed upon at this point, the FRDA Board of Directors will get involved and determine what action      should follow, and the advice of legal counsel may be sought.
